Thinking About Competing?

The Champs is a spectacular day of dancing and
entertainment for both competitors and spectators but as
a competitor you get a whole different insight into the event
that makes the Champs experience just that little bit more
special. There are competition categories available for you
to enter without a regular dance partner. This allows you to
compete without the hours of practice normally required.
Lucky Dip, and Top Cat’s are the competitions for which
you don’t require a partner and Ceroc X has a prescribed routine that makes practice easy. For the other categories you need to find your self a compatible dance partner, choose the level of competition that suits your skill and experience, book on-line, allow for an adequate amount of practice time and then turn up for a highly entertaining and exciting day at the Champs!

Booking on line is very easy. You will need to book a Day Entry Ticket (with the 'premium' option to choose a chair at a table on the stage). You then choose the competition categories that you wish to enter by reading the relevant information under each category then click the ‘Book Online’ button that will take you to the booking wizard. Should you would prefer to send a cheque then you just need to download a postal booking form to complete and post off. Make sure we have all your contact information and full description of what you are booking. If you have not competed before then we recommend that you take the plunge and sign up NOW for one of the most exciting and spectacular events on the dance calendar.

All competition entries have to be received by Friday 26th April 2013

Friends & Family

Special concessionary prices are available for competitor’s non-dancing friends and family. All spectators are required to pay full price for a day entry pass but will be entitled to redeem a 50% discount on the day upon verification of their status. The competitor must accompany their guest to meet with a Ceroc representative to complete a kinship form and apply for the discount. Redemptions will be made during the afternoon approximately between 4pm- 5pm at the Information desk in the front foyer. The precise time will be advertised on the day to coincide with a freestyle section on the schedule of the day. Please tick the ‘Friends & Family’ box at time of booking to indicate your intention to claim a discount.

IMPORTANT
- Please read carefully.

Amateurs Only: No teachers or Dance Professionals* can take part.
 *Dance Professional definition:
- Anyone who has taught a partner dance more than 6 times in the previous 6 months for payment.
- Anyone who is intending to teach a partner dance more than 6 times in the next 6 months for payment.

To enter this category you are required to learn a specific Ceroc X routine. Every couple will be dancing the same 8 Intermediate Moves, but by adding their own character, style, personality and attitude they will make the individual moves their own.

You can dance any or all of the 8 moves, and you can dance them in any order. You cannot add any additional moves into the repertoire. The judges will not be looking for technical accuracy, or your ability to remember all of the 8 moves. They will however be looking for your stylistic interpretations of the moves, your musicality, and the originality of your performance.

Two Demonstrations of the moves can be found at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LA_GvibnQBQ

A teach through of the moves can be found at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TELcyUIU7_0

It's not just the moves...even the music for the competition has been predetermined. At the championships, you will be dancing to the following tracks:

1. ‘Cuba (Radio Edit)’ by Robert Abigail, DJ Rebel and The Gibson Brothers
2. ‘Hollywood’ by Michael Buble
3. ‘Drive By’ by Train
4. The track for the final will be a mystery, TBA before the final is to take place.

Once you have subscribed to this category, you will receive access to two further videos. These hidden videos highlight in more depth the style variations you can explore, and will offer you more guidance as to what the judges are going to be looking for in this category.

Ceroc X has NOTHING to do with technical proficiency or memory. It has EVERYTHING to do with innovation, creativity and standing out from the crowd. All amateur dancers welcome!

Competition Rules

• This category is open to amateurs ONLY.

• Couples will dance to predetermined music chosen by the organisers. The music is detailed above to assist you in your practise time.

All the individual heats winners who receive a sash will be eligible to take part in the Final at the Champs and the winner will receive trophies and there will be medals for 1st 2nd & 3rd place. This is a fun competition category that you can't really practice for so if you are at a weekender then get all your loudest friends together and get them to lead the applause for you and you could be in the Finals in May wearing the flashy Ceroc orange sash...

Open to Amateurs and Professionals: Teachers and Dance Professionals can take part.

Competitors choose their own piece of music and perform their own choreography. This year we have not restricted the number of hold-breaks or drops/lifts in order to allow more artistic freedom. However, all Team Cabaret routines must consist predominantly of Ceroc*.

*‘Ceroc’ is defined by the codified and notated moves which teachers are permitted to teach in classes and workshops. If you are unsure whether or not your routine features sufficient Ceroc content, you can send rehearsal material to the dance department for approval. Send videos to:

Ceroc Champs, ioN Building, 1 Waldo Works, Waldo Road, London NW10 6AW.

Anyone who does not adhere to the spirit of the rules will jeopardise their chances of winning.

Rules and Eligibility Criteria for 2013
Please read carefully.
This category is open to everyone, amateurs and professionals, including teachers and other Dance Professionals..

* No points awarded for dress or presentation

In this section no-one knows who their partner will be! We aim to discover who are the best individual dancers with this category. Tops Cat's is based on the Jack & Jill concept where individuals are randomly paired in each round and judged on their dancing. It is the individuals who go through to the next round, again to be randomly paired for the next heat. This means that each entrant may have a different partner for each round and may even be allocated different partners for each track during the round.

Number of entries to this category are limitless but obviously it has to be gender balanced. Each competitor will receive a dance number which has to be pinned in a place where it is VERY easy for the judges to see.

Competition Rules

• Couples will dance to music chosen by the organisers. This could include anything from the 40's to present day.

• All judging will be by a points system. Dancers are encouraged to dance to the end of their heat. Qualifying dancers will be asked back to the next round. Judges decisions are final.

• Points will be awarded for style, innovation, musical interpretation, quality of dancing and synchronisation of dancers rather than the number/difficulty of moves.

• Judges will NOT award points for dress and presentation. This category will be judges simply on the quality of the dancing as described above so wear what you feel comfortable in!

• Airsteps, (lifts, jumps and acrobatic moves), will not be permitted. Disqualification from the competition will be automatic should a couple attempt these moves.

• No extra points will be awarded for drops but they will be permitted provided that the ball of one of the lady's feet remains in contact with the ground. Otherwise the move will be defined as an airstep.

• The lead and follow aspect of the dance must clearly be demonstrated.

• The dance must be recognisable as a modern jive like Ceroc. Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, 50s style Rock 'n' Roll, Ballroom Jive etc are not modern jives and therefore are not permitted.

• This section is now open only to amateur dancers. Teachers/dance professionals are NOT allowed to enter.

• Partners will be allocated on the day.

• This event is for over 16s only.

• Competitor numbers are strictly limited so places are allocated on a first come first served basis.

• Ceroc Enterprises Ltd reserves the right to change the programme and competition if necessary without consultation.

• The event will be recorded by film, video and photograph; these may be used for Ceroc promotional purposes without any obligation.

• The organisers accept no responsibility for loss or injury to persons or possessions in relation to this event.
